Sketchpad(2010)
Sketchpad is a project I recorded in the last half of February as part of the RPM Challenge. It is a "demo"-grade recording, which was put together to try some ideas, both with sound and song. It is the audio equivalent of a visual artist's sketchpad, where they doodle down some ideas but none are considered as finals. As with a sketchpad, Sketchpad has little that is full production quality, and there's some material I will never build out into a real final product in the future. The current thought is that I will build a full release in the future, featuring some of the material here as well as some other songs not present. My RPM blog at (linked above) has song notes which were always written shortly after completing a song, so the dates are reasonably accurate.
You might notice an overall improvement in performance quality throughout the recording. This is because, like with a artist's sketchpad, the songs are presented in the order recorded. I improved as I went.
So, enjoy, or tolerate, or ???.
Natural (2012 RPM Challenge Sketchpad)(2012)
Improvised and recorded within a 6 hour period in 2012, beginning on February 28th and ending on February 29th. Tracks 1-7 consist of the just the note in the song title, played various ways, at different octaves, on different instruments, at various rhythms. Tracks 8-10 are two of the first six tracks paired up with the earlier letter song on the left channel and the later letter song on the right channel. Songs are presented in the order recorded.
Equipment list:
• G&L L-5000 five string bass guitar
• Crate+Gig Percussion home-hacked bass banjo
• Danelectro Mod7 guitar (modified into an E-A-D-G four string guitar)
• Seagull 12 string acoustic (modified into a 4x3 E-A-D-G string configuration, on "G")
• Baldwin FunMachine organ model 121F (on "F")
• Vtech Kidijamz Studio ("Yo!"s on "A")
• Percussion and recording: Zoom MRS-1044 digitial multi-track recorder.
Brock Frazier plays all instruments except the MRS-1044 which does the work by itself. Thanks again to the RPM Challenge.
